String Resonance and Pedal Noise demos
Aren't you curious on how the String Resonance and the Pedal Noise functionalities sound like in the Nord Piano? We thought you might be, so we've made a few audio demos to showcase these great features. The demos can be found on the Nord Piano information page.

The unlooped Mellotron and Chamberlin sounds has arrived
After numerous requests from quite a few of our connoisseur Nord Wave and Electro 3 users, we are now convinced that some 7 seconds may be quite enough to get the message through (that's what she said). We've gone through our libraries and promptly removed the loops on those fabulous Mellotron and Chamberlin sounds, where applicable.
The result can be stunning or even a bit weird, depending on your mood for today. When those samples are done, you need to play that note again. And those nice, quirky wobbles along the way are most certainly going to spice up your sound a great deal. Download from the Nord Sample Library.

Chamberlin Sample Library available now!
In an exclusive license agreement Nord now offers a close enough complete collection of the original Chamberlin tape library. Downloadable free of charge for all our Nord Wave and Nord Electro 3 players.
The Chamberlin tape sample player was a fantastic invention, made in the late 40's, and with it's growing popularity, it also inspired to the later, and perhaps more well known Mellotron. Read more about the history of Chamberlin and download the free sounds here.

Classic Nord samples added to Nord Sample Library
Nord Classics is a massive addition to the Nord Sample Library. Over 370 samples with classic Nord sounds, from the original Nord Lead 2X, Nord Lead 3 and Nord Modular G2X.
The addition is a perfect fit for the Electro 3 user who wants classic synth sounds to go along with the already much appreciated organ and piano sounds. Or why not have them loaded in the Nord Wave? Listen to demos and see the complete list here.

News from the NAMM show
We would like to share with you some news from the ongoing NAMM show. Click here to go to the NAMM news page.

New Addition in the Nord Piano Library The BlueSwede R Large Upright is a slightly trimmed version of the previously released BlueSwede XLR. This new entry in the Nord Piano Library is a bit smaller in size thanks to some careful editing of the velocity layers and removing some of lowest octave pedal-down samples. This means that the new version is approx. 48 MB, compared to 66 MB for the XLR.
The R indicates that this piano is compatible with the String Resonance feature that is available in the Nord Stage EX from OS version 5.10 and later. Nord Stage Classic and Nord Electro 3 owners can still use the BlueSwede but without the advantage of the String Resonance feature. The piano is available for free download on the Nord Piano Library page.
Chris Martirano's FM programs
We asked Chris Martirano from Design Sounds to recreate some of the best known FM sounds from yesteryear and results are nothing but spectacular. We got the #15 bass, several variations of the sparkly electric piano, the FM brass and loads of other great sounds. These are now available as a free download in the Nord Wave Super Sounds area.
One of the great and prominent features in the Nord Wave is the two ''oscillators on steroids''. Few other hardware synthesizers have the kind of flexibility that the Wave offers in this regard. Not only do you have a bunch of great sounding traditional analog style waveforms and sync capabilities, there is also a large selection of digital waveforms, sample playback capabilities with 180 MB of user replaceable samples and no less than 38 FM algorithms.
These FM algorithms have 1, 2 or 3-operator structures, with or without feedback and allows you to produce the sounds that are very similar to the original DX or TX units that made FM and digital synthesizers very popular in the mid eighties. The added bonus in the Wave is of course that the FM algorithms are then routed through the virtual analog architecture that allows you to further sculpt the sound using the envelopes, multi-mode filters and other functions in the Wave.

The update of the Nord Stage EX OS to version 5.12 fixes the unfortunate “Neverending Download” issue. This caused some users problems when they tried to install the new XLR pianos that we released in early July. The bug itself was triggered by an elusive timing issue between the Stage EX and the Sound Manager. Thanks to everyone who reported this and helped us to finally fix it, and sincere apologies to everyone that ran into problems.
The Nord Stage EX OS v5.12 adds several new exciting features, such as:
• String Resonance – this feature can together with a selection of new acoustic piano sounds recreate the wonderful acoustic phenomenon that occurs inside the body of a piano.
• Piano Unison – will slightly detune the piano. Use this to to create really great honky-tonk pianos.
• The Extern Section has been augmented with a new MIDI Mode selection - Global or Program.
• Another addition to the Extern section is the possibility to use a complete Bank Select procedure with both CC00 and CC32 values.
• A bug in the Farfisa organ where certain selections could cause it to clip has been fixed.
• The Clavinet is now displayed as one file/unit in the Manager, instead of four and will be shown as A. B. C and D in the Type LED on the unit.

The Nord Piano Library has been updated
with three new XLR pianos, the Concert Grand 1 XLR Stw D Close,
the Studio Grand 2 XLR Ya C7 and a brand new acquaintance:
The BlueSwede XLR LargeUpright.
The BlueSwede XLR is a tall upright of Swedish origin. Östlind &
Almquist started doing business in 1888 in Arvika, Värmland and became
one Sweden's major piano manufacturers back in the good old days, with a
reputation for creating great instruments. The company later merged with
Malmsjö.
Mats Ferner, piano technician at the Swedish national
radio - SR - works on getting the upright sound just as we wanted.
This lovely upright was prepared with the objective to keep its unique personality
and we are very pleased with the sound. The BlueSwede's "big"
character will most certainly fit in nicely in a blues, rock and alternative
context, on stage or in the recoding studio. The BlueSwede XLR was recorded
in stereo at one of the Swedish national radio's studios.
The new XLR pianos take advantage of the String Resonance feature that is
implemented in the new Stage EX OS (v5.x or later). XLR pianos can be used
in Electro 3's and classic 128 MB Stage's but then without the string resonance
functionality.
The XLR pianos can be found on the Nord
Piano Library page.
Listen to the new piano sounds:
Our very good friend Christer Karlsson helped us with excellent chops on these clips. No effects, no reverb from the Stage EX or elsewhere have been used, just the String Resonance and, on one occasion, the Piano Unison feature.

C2 OS - update to version 1.2 - click the picture and read more.
Look at the happy faces of the Nord crew as they wave good-bye to the first batch of Nord C2 Combo Organs leaving the factory! Our new combo organ has generated a lot of interest, not only in the traditional tonewheel and transistor loving communities, but also from classic organ players all around.
The C2 is equipped with an improved B3 tonewheel model, a Vox Continental™ and a Farfisa Compact Deluxe™ organ and crowned with a wonderful, sampled baroque pipe organ.
Read about all the features and get a glimpse of it on the new C2 Combo Organ product pages.
The OS of the Classic 128 MB Nord Stage has today been updated to version 4.12, which includes a few fixes for a few bugs that unfortunately were introduced in the 4.10 version. The Clavinet Eq buttons are back online, and the Piano Mono Mode now behaves as expected. As previously announced, this update adds a couple of exciting new Extern features:
The Extern Section has been augmented with a new MIDI Mode selection
- Global or Program. The Global setting behaves like before,
you set one outgoing MIDI for each of the two panels in the Extern section
and these then rule for all the programs. The spanking new Program setting
allows you to save a new setting for the Extern transmitting MIDI channels
for each and every program and panel in the unit.
Another addition to the Extern section is the possibility to use
a complete Bank Select procedure with both CC00 and CC32
values. These two new features may cause some satisfaction to the MIDI endowed
hardcore crew out there. Yes, we do listen to suggestions :-).
While we were at it, we tracked down a bug in the Farfisa organ where certain selections could cause it to clip and another minor inconvenience that would prevent the Piano Mono mode to be indicated on the panel properly. And our housekeeping department has cleaned up some code so that the Clavinet is now displayed as one file/unit in the Manager, instead of four and will be shown as A. B. C and D in the Type LED on the unit.
Please note: This update is currently only available for the classic
128 MB Nord Stage units. The Nord Stage EX series will get these features
as well, in an update that will appear in a not so distant future. The updates
are as always available in the Nord Stage Download area.
Not only can the Nord Wave use samples, FM synthesis and digital
waveforms to complement its already fat and juicy analog style waveforms,
it is designed around a very powerful synthesizer architecture that provides
you with loads of modulation and sound sculpting capabilities.
We asked some of the planet's most talented synthesizer programmers to make
their version of the ultimate Nord Wave Program Bank. The results
were so amazing that instead of making a couple of best-of banks, we decided
that all of these great sounds had to be released. Please have a look in
the brand new Nord
Wave Program Library section.
We are very honored and pleased to have received our 10th M.I.P.A award
at the 2009 Musikmesse. This time the Nord Wave was awarded top honors
in the Synthesizer Hardware category. Thanks to all of you who voted
for us, and to the entire M.I.P.A
crew.
